LJ Cryer, the 6-foot point guard from Morton Ranch (TX) High School, told ZAGSBLOG on Wednesday that he hopes to plan a visit to Oklahoma State in the near future.
“My next visit will probably be to Oklahoma State,” said Cryer. “I like that [Stillwater] is a small town and they play with an up-tempo, high paced offense.”
According to 247Sports, Cryer is ranked as the No. 57 overall player in the Class of 2020 and the No. 5 player from the state of Texas. He currently holds offers from schools such as Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Baylor, Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, and UTEP, among others.
Cryer also mentioned that he hopes to receive offers from Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. He broke down each school:
Kansas: “I just like that it’s a winning school. They play really hard and fast. That’s my style of play, so I feel like I’d fit in really quick.”
Oklahoma: “You see what Trae Young has done this season, so their coach [Lon Kruger] really lets his guards play with freedom. That’s also my style.”
Texas: “I like Shaka Smart. He’s big on defense and he has a lot of energy. I like him as a coach.”
Earlier this month, Cryer took an unofficial visit to Baylor (Feb. 17) and broke down his visit for ZagsBlog. “It was cool because they showed me a lot of love,” said Cryer. “They’ve been on me since my eighth-grade year, so I feel like I’m a part of their family.”
Although he’s only a sophomore, Cryer already has a good idea of what he’s looking for in school, as he said, “I just need to feel like I’m welcome. I need to make sure that it’s a good academic school and their style of play fits me. I want to play right away, so that will be a big factor.”
Earlier this season, Cryer surpassed the 1,500-point career mark at Morton Ranch in only his sophomore season. Cryer described his game, as he said, “I feel like I can score on all three levels pretty well. I feel like I can get the bucket whenever I want to. Overall, I would describe myself as a playmaker because I don’t just get buckets, but I can get my teammates buckets and I’ll do whatever I need to win.”
