Ashton Hagans, the 6-foot-4 point guard from Newton (GA), announced on Tuesday he has committed to Kentucky.
“I committed to Kentucky,” Hagans told 247Sports. “It’s my dream school and I feel like I can get the job done there.”
Hagans decommitted from Georgia in February and chose the Wildcats over the Bulldogs, Florida State, Auburn and Georgia Tech, but Kentucky seemed to be the heavy favorite the past few weeks.
John Calipari and staff conducted an in-home visit with Hagans and his family last Thursday.
“He feels like Coach Cal and his staff can get the job done and get him to the next level,” Game Elite coach Chris Williams told ZAGSBLOG. “It’s his dream school.”
Hagans is currently taking classes that would allow him to reclassify to the 2018 class but a decision has not been made yet.
According to 247Sports, Hagans is the No. 8 player in the 2019 class and the No. 1 point guard.
If he enrolls for 2018, Hagans would effectively replace freshman Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who declared for the NBA Draft on Monday. Hagans is the second Kentucky commit in 24 hours, following 6-10 forward E.J. Montgomery, who committed on Monday.
“I see myself fitting in there good because of the type of guard I am,” Hagans told 247. “I’m a pass-first guard that get others involved. They have other players that can score and I feel like I get everyone involved and be on a winning team.”
Kentucky has a four-man recruiting class for 2018, including Montgomery, Immanuel Quickley, Keldon Johnson and Tyler Herro. Hagans would make it five.
