Xavier Johnson, the 6-foot-3 point guard from Bishop O’Connell (VA), has committed to Pittsburgh, he announced on Twitter Saturday. Johnson visited the campus on Monday.
“I like the Pitt coaching staff and their background,” Johnson told Pittsburgh Sports Now of the visit earlier this week. “I know that Coach Capel has the background to help me out and get me better. Coach Capel told me that he wants me and that he would not only help me be a better basketball player but would help me become a better man.”
Johnson, who decommitted from Nebraska earlier this month, chose the Panthers over Creighton, Georgetown, and Georgia Tech among others.
Johnson is the second commit in the 2018 class for Jeff Capel and the new coaching staff. Four-star point guard Trey McGowens committed to Pittsburgh on Tuesday and will reclassify to 2018.
According to 247Sports, Johnson is a three-star prospect and the No. 9 prospect from the state of Virginia.
