Anthony Walker, the 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward from Brewster (N.H.) Academy, visited Miami for his fourth official visit this past weekend.
He recapped the trip and also discussed the three other visits he has been on thusfar — Illinois (Sept. 3), Pittsburgh (Sept. 14) and Rhode Island (Sept. 21) – -as well as his upcoming final official to VCU (Oct. 19).
“It was great being out there [at Miami] just being able to see the coaches in person and spend a weekend with them and understand their goals,” he said Monday by phone. “It was great.
“Their message was that they wanted me to know as a freshman I would come in and be able to make an immediate impact, using my versatility. I wouldn’t be stuck at one position. They would have me all over the court.”
He recapped his previous visits as well.
Illinois: “Illinois was around the same message. They wanted me to know they have a lot of pieces leaving because they have a lot of seniors, and me coming in would help that. I would make an immediate impact. I would be able to fly around the floor, which I did all summer. And being able to do multiple things on the court, and not just being stuck doing one thing. I would be able to showcase my talents.”
Pittsburgh: “Coach [Jeff Capel] was letting me know that they don’t have a guy like me on their current roster, so he was telling me that I would be a different type of dude than he’s had in the past. I would come in and make an immediate impact and play right away.”
Rhode Island: “They just made me feel like a priority from the start. They’ve been recruiting me since as far as I can remember, starting this summer. They were letting me know how important I was to them and their program, and how big I would be if I were to come.”
VCU: “They’ve told me the development piece would be great. They’re not guaranteeing I would be a one-and-done or two-and-done, but they’re telling me if I come in and give all my effort, they they will give all their effort back and I would be a better player and person.”
As for a timeline, Walker plans to make a decision after the VCU visit “at the end of the month.”
