Keion Brooks ‘getting close to making a decision’

Keion Brooks, the 6-foot-8 wing out of La Lumiere (IN) and the Indy Heat, says he is “getting close to making a decision.”

“It’s still kind of up in the air, but I don’t want to drag it out too much longer,” Brooks said in a recent Instagram Live with Joseph Tipton. “I feel like I’m getting close to almost making a decision. I still have to figure some things out, ask some more questions to narrow it down, but I’m not going to drag it out all the way till April. Definitely not that.”

Brooks is down to a final six of UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Michigan State and Purdue, although he conceded that UCLA is effectively out of the mix after the firing of Steve Alford. He did say he’s “technically still considering UCLA.”

“It will definitely have an impact on my decision,” Brooks said of the coaching change. “Him and his staff have been recruiting me for a long time and we’ve had a great relationship over the last two years so it would be kind of hard trying to start over with a new coach right now and build that whole thing over again.”

He has taken officials to UCLA, Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina. He remains up in the air about a potential fifth official to Michigan State.

“I’m still trying to figure it out,” he said. “If I’m going to to do it, it’s going to be  at Michigan State. We’re still figuring out a good weekend or if we want to do it or not.”

He added: “Michigan State has been recruiting me the longest out of anbyody, since like seventh, eighth grade.”

Brooks broke down all six of his schools and said he talks to Indiana commit Trayce Jackson-Davis on a regular basis about potentially joining forces at IU, his home-state school.

“We took the official together,” Brooks said of his AAU teammate with Spiece Indy Heat.

“His main thing is just take that friendship and that chemistry we had while playing AAU and just take it to Bloomington with us. He’s been recruiting me really hard.”
