Ethan Morton, the 6-foot-4 small forward from Butler Area (PA) and the NY Rens AAU program, committed to Purdue on Thursday.
The No. 12-ranked small forward in the Class of 2020 according to 247Sports.com, Morton was being courted by Marquette, Ohio State, Indiana and Pittsburgh, according to 247Sports.com.
Purdue coach Matt Painter made him a priority and watched him at last month’s Nike EYBL stop outside Atlanta.
“Coach Painter is unbelievable and one of the best coaches in the country, if not the best but every coach recruiting me was great,” he told 247. “I think the biggest thing was I always knew they were one of the best places when it came to playing with guys that were just like me, play the right way, make guys better and still love to win. That was the biggest thing, other than that I think it was a lot of little things that added up.”
Morton is a jack-of-all-trades on the court and coaches love that he can score, pass, rebound and do the little things to help a team win.
“I think obviously I’m going to have to become a better defender and better shooter to have a big impact as early as I want but I think that’s how they kind of see me is doing that,” he said. “Becoming a better shooter and if you look at their numbers of all the guys they have had that have been great shooters have gotten so much better from being there one year so that’s something I’m looking forward to too.
