COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. — Walker Kessler, the 6-foot-11 center from Woodward (GA) Academy, told ZAGSBLOG Sunday at the Team USA U-19 Training Camp that he is currently planning an official visit to Gonzaga.

Kessler is yet to set a date for the visit. Gonzaga head coach Mark Few was in attendance at the training camp Monday.

In addition to Gonzaga, Kessler may take a few more official visits before committing.

“I’m probably going to take an official to UNC and probably another to Duke and Michigan,” he said.

Michigan had their staff on hand Monday with head coach Juwan Howard, as well as assistant Phil Martelli. UNC had assistant Hubert Davis, while Duke had assistant Jon Scheyer in attendance for the Monday evening practice.

“Obviously Duke is a great school,” said Kessler. “Coach K is a historic coach, arguably one of the best in college basketball or even all of basketball really. They’re a historic program.”

Virginia has also been heavily recruiting the five-star big man.

“Coach [Tony] Bennett and the coaching staff are great,” said Kessler. “They’re a great program and they just won the national championship.”

Kessler has previously taken official visits to Vanderbilt (Sept. 21), Michigan (Nov. 2), Virginia (Jan. 4) and Duke (Feb. 1).

Auburn has been another school involved in Kessler’s recruitment.

“They just made a historic run to the final four,” said Kessler on the Tigers. “They have a great staff with great facilities.”

With so many schools involved, Kessler is looking for similar characteristics in a school.

“Every school that I’m looking at has the same sort of thing,” he said. “They all have great coaching staffs with really good teams and great academics.”
