Asante Gist is off the board to Eastern Kentucky.
The 5-foot-11 point guard from St. Anthony’s chose Eastern Kentucky over Miami and Central Florida. He is one of five St. Anthony’s players who will sign a National Letter of Intent on Monday.
“It was a long and stressful time trying to figure out what school I was going to pick,” Gist said earlier this week. “I came down to my last three choices of UCF, EKU, and Bowling Green. All three of these schools showed the most interest in me when it came down to crunch time.
“EKU showed interest from the start. Head coach [Dan] McHale was recruiting me at Seton Hall and I knew him for a long time. He and his whole staff are genuine people and I felt comfortable with them as well.”
Gist averaged 14.8 points-per-game as a junior at Marist High School last year and was a key component on Roselle Catholic’s Tournament of Champion-winning squad as a freshman in 2013.
Gist is rated as a four-star propsect.
“We are thrilled that Asante has become a Colonel,” McHale said. “Anytime you can get a player of his caliber, coupled with the fact that he plays for Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley at St. Anthony, you are adding someone very special to your family. Asante had numerous Big Ten, Big East and AAC offers and chose to make Richmond his new home. We are more than excited!”
Eastern Kentucky also added Parker Chitty, a 6-2 guard out of Columbus, Indiana where he plays for his father, Brent Chitty, at Columbus East High School.
He was a first team All-Hoosier Hills Conference selection as a junior and a member of the 2015 Indiana Junior All-Stars, who defeated the Indiana Senior All-Stars over the summer.
“We are excited to welcome Parker to our Colonel family,” McHale said. “Being the son of a successful high school coach, I know I’m already getting a well-groomed young man who knows how to play the game.”
