Reggie Bass, the 6-foot-5, 180-pound combo guard from Elevation Prep (IN), has committed to Illinois on his 18th birthday, he told ZAGSBLOG before his public announcement.

Ranked as a three-star and the No. 34 shooting guard in the Class of 2022, per 247Sports.com, he also considered Providence, Kansas State and Oregon State.

“I will be taking my talents to the University of Illinois,” he said. “I chose the Fighting Illini because of the culture that’s being built by the coaching staff. Family first was also key for me. I also love how they communicate on the floor, compete and understand the team concept. A few of the players reached out sharing their views and passion for the school which made me feel more comfortable with my decision, plus I get to play with my boy Luke Goode.”

Bass, who averaged 19 points, 7 assists, 8 rebounds and 4 steals, is Illinois’ first 2022 commit.

“He’s someone who will put in the work and succeed in Illinois’s system,” said Elevation assistant coach Jeffrey Metzger. “He’s someone who can make the right play for his team when needed, whether that’s the extra pass, getting a defensive stop, or scoring the ball from deep and inside.

“If he continues to work on his game and in the weight room, his game at Illinois will be limitless.”

Said Bass: “I think I’ll bring many different skill sets to the team. My ability to shoot the ball, play off the screen, get down hill and make plays for my teammates.”

The Illini won the Big Ten Tournament title and are a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
