Jamal Mashburn Jr. will follow coach Richard Pitino and transfer to New Mexico, his father told ZAGSBLOG.
“It’s a crazy basketball state that loves the game and is passionate about it and is looking for a rebuild,” he said, “I want to be that foundational piece for a program and also be able to show and expand my game.”
The 6-foot-2 Mashburn averaged 8.2 points, 1.6 assists and 1.6 rebounds as a freshman at Minnesota under Pitino, who last month was fired from the Big Ten school and then took over at New Mexico.
Mashburn, who played for the PSA Cardinals AAU program and at Brewster (N.H.) Academy, initially committed to Minnesota in October 2019.
