Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski to retire after 2021-22 season

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will retire after the upcoming 2021-22 season, Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported Wednesday.
BREAKING: Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has decided to retire after this coming season, multiple sources told @stadium. Official announcement expected soon.
The leading candidate to replace K is assistant and former Duke player Jon Scheyer.
Krzyzewski, 74, is the all-time winningest coach in college basketball with 1,170 all-time victories.

Since taking over as Duke’s head coach in 1980, Krzyzewski has led the Blue Devils to five national championships, second only to former UCLA coach John Wooden with 10.
Krzyzewski is the second coach of a blue-blood school to target his retirement this offseason after Roy Williams stepped down as the head coach at North Carolina on April 1.
Krzyzewski played under coaching legend Bob Knight at Army from 1966-69, serving as team captain his senior season.
He began his coaching career at an assistant for Knight at Indiana for the 1974-75 season, going 31-1 and laying the groundwork for an undefeated 1975-76 campaign.
After the 1974-75 season, Krzyzewski accepted the head coaching role at Army, going 73-59 in his five years at the school.
Krzyzewski accepted the role as Duke head coach prior to the 1980-81 season.
