More than 150 college coaches arrived in Duncanville, Texas this past weekend to watch some of the best high school basketball teams and prospects across the state of Texas.
Over the three-day event, there were a number of high-profile coaches in attendance such as Georgia head coach Tom Crean, who flew in personally to watch four-star guard Rylan Griffen of Richardson.
A Who’s Who of college coaches arrived to watch Class of 2023 guard Wesley Yates of Beaumont face off with McKinney guard Ja’Kobe Walter, including Alabama’s Nate Oats, Texas’ Chris Beard, Arkansas’ Eric Musselman, Baylor’s Scott Drew, Kansas’ Bill Self and Oregon assistant Chris Crutchfield.
Immediately after the matchup, both Walter and Wesley received offers from Arkansas. Walter also received offers from Baylor and Texas later in the day.
Alex Anamekwe, a 6-foot-5 forward from McKinney, really impressed coaches over the weekend, showing off his athleticism and competitiveness, picking up offers from Texas Tech, Utah State and Alabama.
Several coaches came in to see one of the hottest names of the summer circuit, 6-foot-7 guard Anthony Black, including Duke assistant Chris Carrawell and Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway.
The biggest game of the weekend came Saturday afternoon as Lewisville iSchool and Richardson faced off with eight future Division 1 prospects facing off as a majority of coaches tuned in.
iSchool was led by five-star guard Keyonte George, four-star guard Arterio Morris, as well as high-major prospects Aaron Carter, Tyler Smith, Matt Reed, T’Johnn Brown, while Richardson was led by the four-star duo of Griffen and Cason Wallace.
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes was also in attendance to watch class of 2024 guard Tre Johnson. The 6-foot-5 guard from Lake Highlands (TX) had Baylor, UCLA, Texas, Houston, Texas A&M, and California watching for several of his games.
There were also a number of coaches in attendance to watch players already committed to their schools including Ryan Agarwal (Stanford), Cruz Davis (Oregon State) and Lee Dort and Noah Shelby (Vanderbilt).
Coaches from the majority of the Big-12 were in attendance, including Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton, Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber and Oklahoma’s new head coach Porter Moser.
