NEW YORK — Memphis commit Will Barton and Memphis target Joe Jackson don’t seem too worried about the program vacating its 2008 Final Four.
The Rivals story on that is linked above.
The 5-foot-11 Jackson, out of Memphis (Tenn.) White Station High, said he still considers Memphis his leader.
“I like Memphis and Tennessee but Memphis, they kind of high right now,” Jackson said Thursday at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club in The Bronx.
He is here in New York for Friday night’s Boost Mobile Elite 24 event at Harlem’s Rucker Park.
Jackson recently trimmed his list to Memphis, Tennessee and Kansas, but most people expect him to land at hometown favorite Memphis. Josh Pastner, whose team will have its 2008 Final Four appearance stripped because of the Derrick Rose/SAT scandal, has made Jackson Priority No. 1.
Jackson said he likes the idea of staying home for college, but knows there would be a lot of pressure on him.
“A lot of people [are] going to be in your ear…telling you you can be this or you can be that,” he said. “I know you could, but that would be a good thing too, though. All the fans would be behind my back. I would never have to worry about anything.”
Still, Jackson said he plans to visit Tennessee and Kansas sometime in September or October.
Is there a chance he goes to either school over the hometown favorite?
“Yeah, it’s a chance,” he said. “Whatever situation is best for me.”
As for his timetable, he said: “I’ll probably sign before the high school season starts but I don’t know what day.”
