Miles Byrd, the 6-foot-7, 175-pound shooting guard from Stockton (CA) Lincoln and West Coast Elite, announced his top 8 schools on Saturday.
Ranked the No. 9 shooting guard in the Class of 2022, Byrd is down to Villanova, Minnesota, San Diego State, Pacific, Colorado State, Washington, Santa Clara and St. Marys.
He will visit San Diego State (Sept, 3-5), Washington (Sept. 18), Minnesota (Sept 25) and Colorado State (Sept. 26-28).
He broke down each school for ZAGSBLOG.
Colorado State: “They didn’t miss one game this summer so the amount of loyalty and interest that shows is eye opening. I also have a great relationship with the staff, in contact with everyone over there. The thing that sticks out most to me is how invested they are in my family as well making sure they stay in contact with my parents just as much as they do me.”
San Diego State: “Since I started talking to them, the relationship has been there. The amount of success they have had over the years just can’t go unnoticed. I’d be stepping into a program that has a track record of winning and getting guys to the league.”
Pacific: “I grew up in Stockton, was born here and my dad has coached at Pacific for many years so the amount of background knowledge I have for the school is strong. Coach [Leonard] Perry since getting the job has showed I’m a priority for them as well.”
Villanova: “I’ve been familiar with Villanova since birth. My dad played there so there is a family type relationship with the staff. No matter where I played this summer, they had someone there to watch me which didn’t go unnoticed. Another program where winning is in their DNA along with developing pros.”
Washington: “After Coach Hop was able to watch me play at Section 7 with my high school, our relationship grew a lot stronger. A thing about them for certain is they get guys to the league which is my ultimate goal. Seeing guys who have gone there, developed there, and ended up in the NBA who have the same dimensions and play styles as me is intriguing.”
Minnesota: “There has always been constant communication whether it’s on Facetime or Zoom or just calls regularly showing the love they have for me. Coach [Ben] Johnson has made me feel like a priority since day 1 of talking. Minnesota is in a great conference, in a great college town, with a crazy basketball environment. I have a great relationship with the whole staff.”
Santa Clara: “Coach [Herb] Sendek and the whole staff are great guys! Love connecting with them to talk about daily life, not just hoop. I was able to officially visit in May before the live period where my family and I had tons of fun. Being from Norcal, the area is familiar with me and it’s not far from home.”
Saint Mary’s: “I’ve been familiar with Saint Mary’s since I was really young due to my dad coaching in the same conference. Great program who has wins to prove it along a coaching staff that really knows what they are talking about and doing. Saint Marys is another school that thoroughly develops guards and turns them into pros.”
