Who were the top Wootten 150 class of 2023 top performers

The Wooten 150 Camp displayed the nation’s best in the class of 2022, 2023, and 2024. Several prospects improved their stock over the weekend.

Here are my standouts from the class of 2023:

RJ Jones (MVP)| John Paul II – Jones was by far the best junior in the gym throughout the weekend, displaying an array of offensive moves leading to several buckets from any and everywhere on the floor. The Aubrey (TX) native is ranked 38th according to ESPN and will likely crack into the top-30 on the next update. Jones is one of the best shot-makers in the class, on both days of the camp he made shots at an efficient clip.

Austin Parks| Memorial – Parks really impressed me throughout the weekend. A 6-foot-10 big-man that is committed to defending the rim at all costs and is an aggressive rebounder. He stood out the most in the 3 on 3 portion of the camp as he played above the rim, showed switch-ability in the pick and roll, and was unstoppable in the low-post.

Sean Stewart| Windermere – Stewart has one of the highest upsides of anyone at the camp with his versatility on both ends. At 6-foot-8, 205 pounds he approaches the game from a physical standpoint as bullies smaller defenders. On both days of the camp he showed his ability to score very well in mid-range and he’s dynamic in the open court.

Malik Presley| San Marcos – The high-flying shooting-guard really made a name for himself at the camp as he threw down furious dunks and made high-IQ passes that leading to scoring opportunities for his teammates. Presley is incredibly quick with a tight handle that can score on all three levels. He also took it upon himself to guard the other teams best player and showed he can lock-up defensively when motivated.

Jaland Lowe| Fort Bend Marshall – One of the biggest stock risers at the camp was Jaland Lowe. Lowe shined in 1 on 1 and 3 on 3 portions over the weekend. The. 6-foot-1 lefty can really shoot it from deep and is terrific in the pick and roll. So far he only has two division one offers, but I expect more schools to call him in the near future.

Nazar Mahmoud|Rouse – Another stock riser was Nazar Mahmoud. The Leander (TX) native had a hell of a weekend. He was the runner-up in the 1 on 1 competition, won the 5 on 5 championship, and helped take his 3 on 3 team to the final four. Mahmoud has a beautiful stroke and showed he can make contested shots at a high-level. The 6-foot-6 shooting-guard is one of the hottest recruits in the state and has several high-major programs calling after this weekend.

Layden Blocker|Sunrise Christian – This is Blocker’s second appearance at the Wootten 150 and he continues to get better each time I see him play. The game has really slowed down for him as he was able to slice through the defenses and create opportunities for him teammates. Blocker also proved that he is one of the most athletic point guards in the country as he threw down several dunks and was too much to handle in transition.
