Still looking to commit ‘sooner rather than later’, class of 2023 five-star guard Kylan Boswell tripped to UNLV from Jan. 28-30 for his first official visit.
“I thought it was awesome,” Boswell said by text Monday. “Having drivers pick you up, staff waiting at nice hotels – I didn’t come from that, but also this was Vegas, so maybe it was nicer than normal.”
Boswell says he loved spending time with the coaches, noting the collaborative nature of the coaching staff.
“Every coach is like a head coach! They’re working together to be great,” he said. “Coach (Kevin) Kruger really wants to put UNLV back in the conversation of the nation’s best. They want the right players to help that momentum.”
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound point guard from Compass Prep (AZ), was surprised by the location of UNLV’s campus and proximity to the rest of the city.
“I loved the campus. I thought it was going to be about the strip, but they have a whole private world at UNLV,” he said. “It’s easy to get around from practice to the apartments and if you want, there’s obviously plenty to do.”
Boswell also enjoyed conversing with Rebels senior guard Jordan McCabe, who transferred to UNLV after the 2020-21 season.
“He was great for insight on the truth about college basketball in general,” Boswell said. “He and I clicked on just speaking facts.”
Boswell, the No. 3 point guard and No. 13 overall prospect in the class of 2023, says his next official visits will be to Illinois and Arizona, but is still working out the details to set dates. He broke down each program:
Illinois: “They let their guards play fast and make decisions. It’s hard to play when you’re worried if the coach will get mad about shooting. That’s not a problem at any of the schools I’m considering.”
Arizona: “They let you shoot. They play fast. Coach (Tommy) Lloyd keeps it cool if they’re winning or losing.”
Boswell is also considering Kansas, Michigan, Oregon, Texas Tech and USC and says he plans to visit the schools with whom he has the strongest relationships.
“We can only go on five (officials),” he said. “It’s kind of sad that we get limited and can’t see all the schools but I’ll do what works for my family best.”
