Villanova freshman guard Jordan Longino will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee Friday in the Philadelphia area, the school announced. Longino originally suffered the injury in a team practice on March 16 and was not in uniform for Villanova’s first and second round NCAA Tournament games in Pittsburgh.
Longino, 6-5, will not be with the Wildcats for their NCAA Tournament South Regional semifinal against Michigan.
“We’re all crushed for Jordan that this injury has prevented him from playing in the NCAA Tournament,” stated Villanova head coach Jay Wright. “Jordan overcame injuries last fall to become an important part of our team and we’ve missed having him on the court. But we know he’ll bring great effort to his recovery, and we’re excited about his future at Villanova.”
Longino appeared in 26 games for the Wildcats in 2021-22, averaging 8.8 minutes and 1.8 points per outing. He recorded season highs in points (10) and rebounds (seven) in Villanova’s 78-59 victory over Butler on March 5 to conclude the BIG EAST regular season.
