Syracuse AD on Boeheim: Future plans will be made ‘in due time’

On the same day Syracuse lost its fourth straight game by at least 17 points, Athletic Director John Wildhack commented on the future of head coach Jim Boeheim.

Wildhack spoke to CuseSportsTalk.com Tuesday and was asked if an announcement about Boeheim’s potential retirement timeline would be made public.

He said the conversations he had with Boeheim would stay confidential, but added they will discuss the program’s future, but finishing this season strong was the priority.

"You've always got a working list of potential coaches… At the same time, Coach Boeheim, what he's done here is unprecedented."

“In due time we will talk about the future, but our focus right now is we’ve got to finish these two regular season games, play in the ACC Tournament and really turn our attention toward the 2023-24 season and put our full effort into that,” Wildhack told CuseSportsTalk.com.

After Tuesday’s 96-76 home loss to Georgia Tech, Syracuse dropped to 16-14 (9-10) this season, ninth in the ACC. Syracuse would need to win its conference tournament to make the NCAA Tournament.

Boeheim has been the Syracuse head coach since 1976, reached five NCAA Final Fours and won the 2003 National Championship. Earlier this month, Boeheim told ESPN’s Pete Thamel he would probably be back next season and it was his decision to return or retire.

“I know it’s my choice,” he told ESPN. “I can do whatever I want. I just don’t know for sure.”
