Tariq Francis, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Pittsburgh, will reclassify and enroll at NJIT for the 2023-24 season.

Francis, who played last season at First Love Christian Academy and runs with the NY Rens on the Nike EYBL circuit, had initially planned to spend next season at The Patrick School (N.J.).

“NJIT is a great program with a great coaching staff who embraced me from day one,” he said. “And I’m bringing a winning and tough mentality along with shot and playmaking ability who can also defend!”

Patrick School coach Chris Chavannes was an assistant at St. Patrick’s when current NJIT coach Grant Billmeier played there.

“Tarik is set to make an impact as a remarkable on-ball defender and shooter,” Chavannes said. “With his innate leadership skills, he is a natural leader that will be an invaluable asset to NJIT team.”
