Notre Dame assistant Mike Farrelly had been recruiting Sundra since his time at Penn State. “Mike Farrelly did an amazing job of recruiting him, saw him early on when he was at Penn State and just saw his potential,” PVI coach Glenn Farello told ZAGSBLOG. “Coach [Micah Shrewsberry] and his offensive concepts and how they use players like Garrett, I think is a perfect match.” He added: “He’s a traditional stretch four. He can really shoot it, he’s got a bright future as a gets stronger because his passing IQ, his feel for the game, he has all the tools. And I’m very excited because he’s our first Paul VI Notre Dame player, and my grandfather went to Notre Dame.” Said Sundra: “I am a versatile stretch forward who is willing to do whatever it takes to win.” Sundra said he’s working on recruiting guard Sir Mohammed to Notre Dame. Sundra is the fourth Paul VI (Va.) senior to commit to college, following UConn-bound wing Isaiah Abraham, Duke-bound guard Darren Harris and Rhode Island-bound point guard Ben Hammond. Garrett Sundra, the 6-foot-10 forward from Paul VI Catholic (VA), has committed to Notre Dame, he told ZAGSBLOG.
Ranked the No. 17 power forward in the 247Sports Composite, Sundra also considered Miami, Butler, Providence and Virginia Tech.
“I will be committing to Notre Dame,” he said ahead of his public announcement.
“It ultimately came down to the coaching staff. Coach [Micah] Shrewsberry did a phenomenal job last year at Penn state and he coached at the highest level. Coach Farrelly did a great job recruiting me and we built a great relationship on the visit. Notre Dame is also a very good school academically.”
