C.J. Cox, the 6-foot-2, 188-pound combo guard from Milton (MA) Academy and the Middlesex Magic AAU program, committed to Purdue on Sunday.

He chose the Boilermakers over Princeton, Penn and Elon.

“I chose Purdue because of the amazing blend of academics and High Major basketball,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “It is one of the best universities in the country and one of the best basketball programs in the nation every year. Also because coach [Matt] Painter believes in me and I believe in him. I can’t wait to be a Boilermaker!:

He added: “I am an extremely hard-working guard who takes pride playing both ends of the court. I guard multiple positions on defense and I am a versatile guard who can score and facilitate. The most important thing to me is winning and I focus on ways to impact winning every day.”

Said Middlesex Magic coach Mike Crotty:

“He’s a strong, athletic, physical, two-way guard who’s excellent off the bounce with a lethal pull-up jump shot. He’s extended that out to three but also off the bounce.

“He averaged 16 points for our Under Armour Association championship team.

“He is the single best defensive guard we’ve ever hard in our program and I think he’ll be able to hit the floor and make an impact defensively but he’s also an excellent versatile offensive player.

“We’re so proud of him and looking forward to watching him make an impact at Purdue.”
