Four-star recruit Khaman Maker has signed his National Letter of Intent to attend St. John’s next season.
The 7-foot-1 center from Las Vegas, currently ranks 80th overall and 13th at his position in the Class of 2024, according to On3.com.
“Khaman is a young man with great potential,” said head coach Rick Pitino. “He is an elite shot blocker who will only get stronger and better each month of the season.”
SFBA Trinity Prep coach Greg Lockridge told ZAGSBLOG: “He’s a tremendous shot-blocker, and runs the floor like a deer. His offensive game is a work in progress, but he goes over either shoulder, and has a soft touch.”
Maker starred on the defensive end of the floor this past summer at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam. Playing for the Oakland Soldiers in one of the nation’s top high school tournaments, Maker ranked second with 2.7 blocks per game while averaging 8.4 rebounds and 6.3 points per contest. He posted double-digit rebounds and registered four or more blocks in three of his final four games at the Peach Jam. Maker was dominant defensively in the championship game against Team WhyNot, posting eight points, 12 rebounds and six blocks in 26 minutes of action.
During his time at SFBA Trinity Prep, he was named the Defensive Player of the Year in The Grind Session’s Duel in the Desert event. He also secured a spot on the All-Grind Session Team following the 2022-23 season. This past season, Maker scored 16 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked seven shots against Our Saviour Lutheran (NY) on Jan. 21, 2023. The following day, Maker went for 24 points and 18 rebounds against Albuquerque Prep (NM).
Maker attended the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 camp over the summer where he ranked ninth overall with a 63.2 field goal shooting percentage while playing for the Denver Nuggets affiliate. In addition, he finished 17th in the camp with 2.1 offensive rebounds per game. Maker participated in the Pangos All-American Camp over the summer.
Maker is the third Johnnie to ink a National Letter of Intent during the NCAA’s early signing period, joining Lefteris Liotopoulos and Jaiden Glover.
