The SEC has suspended Alabama junior forward Mohamed Wague one game for “committing a fighting act” vs. Florida on Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa.
On the floor, this play was a no call and the referee crew did not go to the monitor for a review. However, after the conference office reviewed the video, the SEC decided to act. “It was determined that Wague committed the fighting act of striking Florida’s Alex Condon in the back of the head with his elbow/forearm with 9:25 remaining to play in the first half of Wednesday’s game,” the SEC release stated. Wague will be suspended for Alabama’s game at No. 17 Kentucky on Saturday. The 6-foot-10 junior averages 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 10 minutes per game off the bench for Nate Oats and Alabama. “We received the discipline for Mo from the SEC and agree with the suspension,” Oats said in a statement. “After reviewing the film, the penalty is understandable and appropriate.” Per NCAA rules, a suspension is required for the next regular-season game when a player “commits an act of fighting defined as a confrontation involving one or more players, coaches or other team personnel wherein (but not limited to) a fist, hand, arm, foot, knee or leg is used to combatively strike the other individual.” Follow Sam Lance on Twitter Follow Adam Zagoria on Twitter Follow ZAGSBLOGHoops on Instagram And Like ZAGS on FacebookSource: Alabama forward Mohamed Wague has been suspended one game by the SEC office for this elbow to the head of Florida’s Alex Condon on Wednesday night.
