BROWNSBURG, Indiana — Class of 2024 UConn signee Isaiah Abraham had a stellar performance in Paul VI’s (VA.) 58-44 win over Link Academy (MO.) at Friday’s Chipotle Nationals semifinals.
The 6-foot-7 wing dropped 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting while locking up one of the nation’s top scorers Tre Johnson. Abraham held the Texas commit to 11 points and 3-for-18 from the field.
“Defense is how we win championships,” he told ZAGSBLOG postgame. “We’re going to need that tomorrow.”
“Today felt simple just getting to my spots,” he concluded. “And making sure that my teammates got involved. Offensively, I was going, but defensively, I played a bigger role.”
Abraham will play in Saturday’s championship game against undefeated 30-0 Montverde Academy. The game, which tips off at 11:00 a.m. ET, comes before his future program UConn plays Alabama in the Final Four.
“They’re ready to go,” he said. “He’s [Dan Hurley] locked in with the team, watching players, watching film, and doing all the other stuff. They’re definitely coming in there with a different mindset.”
Abraham has remained in contact with Hurley and says he’ll do whatever the NCAA Champion coach needs out of him to win.
“I think I do a great job defensively, and my versatility can be used a lot,” he said. “Whatever they need me to do to win, I got it for him.”
