Labaron Philon, the No. 3 point guard in the class of 2024, has committed to Alabama, he announced Sunday.
The Link Academy (MO.) product originally committed to Jayhawks and requested his NLI release just a week ago. He ultimately chooses his in-state school over the likes of Cincinnati and Ole Miss, who he was considering back in September. He initially committed to Auburn as a junior.
Philon had a successful year at Link, ranking top 10 in the EYBL Scholastic in assists (4.3 per game), assist-to-turnover ratio and steals (2.4). The Lions finished as semifinalists at Chipotle Nationals.
Alabama now has the No. 2 freshman class in the country, featuring five-star Derrion Reid, five-star Aiden Sherrell, four-star guard Philon, and four-star Naas Cunningham.
Nate Oats and the Tide have also brought in a loaded transfer class. Former USF wing Chris Youngblood adds some serious scoring to an already dynamic offense, while Aden Holloway (Auburn) looks to start as the lead guard. Finally, former Pepperdine guard Houston Mallette looks to be one of the best shooters out of the transfer portal this offseason.
