Bobby Hurley continued to remake the Arizona State roster Friday with the addition of USC transfer Brandon Gardner, a one-time St. John’s commit out of Christ the King High School in Queens.
The 6-foot-8 Georgia native was on a medical redshirt last season under former USC coach Andy Enfield, and now gets a fresh start as ASU shifts into the Big 12.
“I love their style of play,” Gardner told Devils Digest., “and I trust that the coaching staff will get me where I need to go in life. They have a legendary coach in Bobby Hurley, who knows a lot about the game. He will put me in the right spots where I need to be successful.
“I know with the people that they are bringing in, we will be athletic, we’ll play first, and it’s gonna be loud city. This style fits me because I like how we play, getting up and down, and playing press defense. It’s ‘Guard U’ – James Harden went here.”
“Bobby Hurley and the entire coaching staff are committed to the developmental process for BG,” his mother Tameka Gordon told ZAGSBLOG.
“He will bring an elite motor, excitement (of course), high level defense, and a polished jumper.”
The Sun Devils have also added five-star big man Jayden Quaintance and several other transfers, including former Milwaukee guard BJ Freeman, Ole Miss transfer guard Austin Nunez, Missouri State transfer guard Alston Mason and Ball State transfer forward Basheer Jihad.
