This news just in: newspapers are dying.

Every day seems to bring more news of layoffs in the business, sending more and more reporters running toward work on the Internet.

My advice: Get out while you can.

**The Daily News plans to buy out 25 members of its newsroom. The package will offer reporters two weeks of pay for every year served (reporters max out at 52 weeks of buyout pay) and six months of health care.

**Gannett Co. Inc. eliminated 120 full- and part-time positions Tuesday at its six newspapers in New Jersey due to deteriorating business conditions.

“Business conditions continue to deteriorate for our customers and, as a result, advertising revenues have not stabilized,” Thomas M. Donovan, president and publisher of the Asbury Park Press and vice president of Gannett’s East Newspaper Group, told the Courier Post.

Thirty-five part- and full-time jobs were eliminated at the Courier Post, and about 600 layoffs are coming company wide at Gannett.

**This development follows the news that Advance Publications Inc. will sell The Star-Ledger, Jersey’s largest paper, unless 26 percent of employees take a buyout by October.

**The Bergen Record and the Herald News also merged various desks, effectively eliminating the unique sports section of the Herald News.

**The Cleveland Plain Dealer offered buyouts to 370 employees.

**The Buffalo News offered them to 107 workers.
