Class of 2025 four-star shooting guard Melvin Bell has committed to San Jose State, he announced on X.com.
“Before I went on the visit to San Jose I started to build a relationship with Coach [Tim] Miles and Coach [Ed] Gipson,” Bell said. “But then when I got on campus everything just felt genuine. The coaches kept it real with me and when I watched practice and film I saw that I’ll fit in perfectly. Plus it was just a good opportunity.” Bell — the 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard from La Lumiere (IN) and the Meanstreets Nike EYBL AAU program — committed after taking his official visit this past weekend. In Bell’s most recent action playing in the Peach Jam PIT, he averaged 14.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 61.9% from the field and 50% from 3-point range. “I’m a dog,” Bell previously said of his game. “I pick up full court. I can get downhill, shoot the ball a little bit. And I help my teammates make a play.” His AAU coach for the Nike EYBL Meanstreets program, former Marquette guard Jerel McNeal, has high praise for Bell’s abilities. “Melvin has been one the staples of our programs for the last few years,” McNeal said. “He is one of the best and most underrated two-way players in the country. He has great positional size, is a good athlete, and [has a great] skill set. Off the court he’s a really smart kid, hard working and loyal. He’s quiet but actually really funny. He was one of our main leaders this year. He will contribute right away!” Bell is San Jose State’s first commit in the 2025 class.
