WICHITA, KS — Sunrise Christian will have a rising senior leading the show this year: 6-foot-2 point guard Luke Moore.
Moore — the Little Rock, Arkansas native who played AAU ball with AEO Flight on the Adidas 3SSB this past summer — is a quick, bursty guard who can do it all.
“He’s impressive man,” Sunrise head coach Kyle Lindsted told ZAGSBLOG. “I think this year will be really good for him for his maturation as a college player. The only thing that — Luke’s got about everything — the only thing he doesn’t have is just size. That’s not going to change. So he’s got to learn how to play the size he’s at. And how do you defend high-major elite dudes when your not that size? I think it’s going to be really really healthy for him to do that.”
Lindsted continued:
“He shoots it really well. He runs your team really well. He’s just what the doctor ordered as far as a point guard and a steady dude. He’s got to grow in the vocal leadership department in some ways, but Luke’s better than people realize. A lot better.”
Right now, Moore is being recruited by Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Drake and Oakland. He’s taken official visits to all of those schools besides Oakland, who wants to get him on campus. Moore broke down all these options to ZAGSBLOG:
ACU: “I like the coach. He’s a great coach. He taught me a lot about how I could fit into the system and I really liked him. He’s a good defensive coach and he was just honest with us the whole time. So I like that.”
Central Arkansas: “That’s home for me. Really close to home. Mom could probably make it for every game. Coaching staff there just feels like family right now.”
Drake: “They have a new coach. He came from a Division II school. But I can already feel — like he watched a bunch of film. He has a bunch of point guards who have made it professionally. And at the DII level that speaks volumes.”
Oakland: “I really haven’t talked to much with them but they are looking to get me on a visit. I’ve talked a little bit to the assistant coach, but I’ll learn more on my visit.”
Moore said the three schools he’s visited are the ones that talk to him on a “daily basis.”
For his senior season at Sunrise, Moore wants to win games.
“That’s really my main goal,” Moore said. “And be a team player. I didn’t come here to get more offers or more looks. I came here to win at a high level against great competition. I want to make it to Chipotle. That’s a big goal of mine. Really just get every win we can.”
Moore isn’t the only hooper in his family. His mother, Lena Hayes, was the all-time leading scorer at Henderson State before someone with an extra year of COVID-19 eligibility broke the record recently.
