Trey McKenney, the No. 20 overall prospect in the 2025 class, has committed to Michigan, he announced live to 247Sports.
McKenney — the 6-foot-4, 225-pound guard from St. Mary’s (MI) and The Family Nike EYBL AAU program — chose Michigan over Georgetown and USC.
“I’ll be the first kid in 40 years from Flint on the basketball side from Flint to commit to UM,” McKenney told ZAGSBLOG. “Why [I committed] is Dusty May. Dusty is a great dude and a players’ coach.”
This summer, McKenney was one of the most prolific scorers in the entire EYBL playing alongside Arkansas commit Darius Acuff with The Family. During Peach Jam, McKenney averaged 19.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 48.5% from the field and 21-of-51 (41.2%) from 3. His squad went 6-2 playing in the PIT.
McKenney was also featured on Team USA’s 5×5 U18 Men’s AmeriCup squad that won a gold medal in Buenos Aires.
“Trey has a NBA physicality to his game,” USA basketball coach Don Showalter said. “He is a big strong guard who can over power smaller defenders and take on taller defenders at the basket. His defensive mindset is excellent and has a high IQ. His perimeter shooting skills have continued to improve which makes his ability to get to the rim more effective.”
He’ll play his senior season at St. Mary’s, which is about an hour from Michigan’s campus in Ann Arbor.
