Silas Demary Jr., a former four-star recruit and highly touted transfer, has committed to UConn after also considering St. John’s.

“This is a program that’s built on winning and having the big stage, and I feel like it was time for me to come to that stage, and I feel like that’s why I ended up here,” Demary said about UConn.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound Demary was one of the best available transfers, ranking No. 7 overall on 247Sports’ rankings and No. 20 by Evan Miya. He averaged 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in 2024-25. He was the 22nd best scorer in a loaded SEC conference and helped Georgia to the NCAA Tournament.

The guard particularly shined toward the end of the season. Over Georgia’s last 10 games, Demary was in double-figures every contest and averaged 19.3 points while shooting 29-of-75 (38.7%) from 3-point range. He will look to continue his success in Dan Hurley’s dynamic offense.

“Silas is the type of big guard we love at UConn and we can’t wait to get him in the mix,” Hurley said. “He can score from all three levels, play-make and use his length to guard multiple positions. Silas comes from a great family and will fit our championship culture to a tee.”

Demary initially committed to Georgia two years ago after initially pledging to USC.

Demary will join a UConn roster in major transition.

Freshmen Ahmad Nowell and Isaiah Abraham and sophomore Yousouff Singare are transferring out, as is junior guard and Saint Mary’s transfer Aidan Mahaney. Hurley said last month that “50 percent of my roster is considering going in the portal.”

Freshman wing Liam McNeeley declared for the NBA Draft and is a projected lottery pick, and junior Alex Karaban could follow suit.

Sophomore guard Solo Ball and sophomore wing Jaylin Stewart are back, as is junior big man Tarris Reed Jr.

“Those guys welcomed me with open arms,” Demary said of UConn’s returning players. “Like I said, it just felt right from the jump, and being around those guys was just like icing on the cake.”

UConn is also bringing in a highly touted four-man recruiting class of Braylon Mullins, Darius Adams, Jacob Furphy and Eric Reibe.

“I know they’re going to come in hard, they’re going to come in ready to work, and I think me being able to help them out because it’ll be their first summer vs. me being [in] my third summer,” Demary said about UConn’s incoming freshmen. “So giving them positive affirmation and know that coach gonna coach you hard but it’s all for a good cause, and to not let it get to you.”
