Adam Zagoria is a Basketball Insider who covers basketball at all levels. A contributor to The New York Times and SportsNet New York (SNY), he is also the author of two books and is an award-winning journalist and filmmaker. His articles have appeared in ESPN The Magazine, SLAM, Sheridan Hoops, Basketball Times and in newspapers nationwide. PISCATAWAY, N.J. –– The Rutgers men’s basketball team hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 1991, yet a projected starting forward already has an NCAA championship ring on his bureau.
Jonathan Mitchell, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound junior forward from Mount Vernon, N.Y., won a national championship as a true freshman with Florida in 2007.
“I have the ring, I didn’t have it with me today, but if the guys come to my room they can see it on my dresser,” Mitchell told reporters last week at Rutgers media day.
