Seton Hall has added former Wake Forest guard Madison Jones for the 2016-17 academic year, sources told SNY.tv.
The 6-foot-1 Jones will be a graduate student and will help fortify a backcourt that lost sophomore point guard Isaiah Whitehead to the NBA Draft. Seton Hall returns rising junior guard Khadeen Carrington and will add 2016 signee Eron Gordon for the fall and Kansas State transfer Jevon Thomas at the semester break.
Sources said Seton Hall still has a scholarship available for 6-10 power forward Taurean Thompson, who is expected to announce between Seton Hall, Syracuse and Michigan State.
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Jones was dismissed last August from Wake Forest after he was charged with driving while impaired, along with a civil revocation of his driver’s license. The university released a statement then saying Jones had been dismissed from the team for an unspecified violation of athletics department policy
At Ravenscroft School, he led the Ravens to their first NCISAA title in 32 years. Jones was was ranked the No. 14 player in the state by ESPN.com and rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals and Scout.
Jones averaged over 20 minutes per game as a Demon Deacon, logging minutes in 96 games over his three seasons. The senior-to-be totaled over 250 assists, recording more than 90 in his sophomore and junior campaigns.
As a junior at Wake Forest, Jones played in all 32 games, earning six starts on the season. The Raleigh native was among the ACC leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio while averaging a career-best 4.7 points, 3.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 21.0 minutes per game. Jones led the team with 34 steals and ranked second on the team with 97 assists.
