It’s been quite the week for Immanuel Quickley, a 6-foot-4 Class of 2018 point guard from John Carroll (Md.) High School.
On Tuesday he was named to the 12-man roster for the 2016 USA Men’s U17 World Championship Team. And on midnight on Tuesday college coaches began reaching out directly to Quickley.
“[Villanova coach] Jay Wright called first,” Quickley told SNY.tv from Colorado Springs, Colo. “But I got texts from Duke, Washington, Miami and Kentucky.”
In the past few days he has added offers from Villanova, Arizona, Texas A&M, UCLA and Maryland.
“I’m a natural true point guard that can run a team in the pick-and-roll situation along with being able to score,” he said. “I would love to play fast, but can also play in the half court.”
Don Showalter, head coach of the U17 team, has been impressed by Quickley so far.
“He’s very good,” Showalter said. “Great defensively. He’s a very smart player who understands how to get everyone involved in the offense. I like him a lot.”
