  • Shaq Stokes to Lincoln; St. Ray’s Gets Talent

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
Shaquille Stokes, a talented 5-foot-10, 160-pound point guard from New York, has transferred to Brooklyn Lincoln from St. Patrick of Elizabeth.

“Yes, he’s in Lincoln and will probably be our starting point guard for the next three years,” Lincoln coach Dwayne “Tiny” Morton said in a text message. “I love his game. He could be the second-best true point guard I had since (Sebastian) Telfair.”

At Lincoln, Stokes will play alongside Lance “Born Ready” Stephenson as the Railsplitters try for their fourth straight PSAL title.

St. Patrick is loaded in the backcourt with North Carolina-bound combo guard Dexter Strickland, Montclair Kimberley transfer Kyrie Irving, who received a slew of major D-1 offers this summer, Kevin Boyle Jr., Derrick Gordon and Dean Kowalski.

Ironically, Lincoln and St. Patrick will play each other Feb. 13 at LIU-Brooklyn in the PrimeTime Shootout on ESPN.

In other Lincoln news, 6-7 senior F James Padgett did not make a visit this past weekend to Pitt. He will instead visit Maryland this weekend and Pitt on Sept 20.

    ST. RAY’S GETTING SOME TALENT

St. Raymond’s is also getting three talented freshmen from the Long Island Lightning Dingle team that just won 14U AAU Nationals: 6-4 G Nkereuwem Okoro, 5-9 G Myron Hickman and 6-5 PF Daniel Dingle.

Okoro already has interest from St. John’s, PItt, Rutgers and Norfolk STate, according to Lightning coach Darryl Washington.

“(Okoro) should be a big help (for St. Raymond’s),” Washington said. “He’s going to be a big help. I’ll be kind of shocked if he doesn’t make varsity. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t play a lot.”

St. Ray’s lost seniors OMari Lawrence and Kevin Parrom to South Kent (Conn.) and can use some more skilled ballhandlers.

Washington called Hickman “a very potent offensive player.”

“He’s a two guard, he can flat out score,” Washington said.

As for Dingle, Washington said the power forward had “a high basketball IQ. He handles the ball really well. He pretty much could do anything.”

Elsewhere on the Dingle team, 6-foot G Emmanuel Brown of Thurgood Marshall has interest from Rutgers, St. John’s and NOrfolk State and 5-8 G Jamel Torrence, who is undecided on high school, also has St. John’s and Norfolk State interest.
