  • Knicks an Option for Fernandez?

The Knicks may be done on the free agency front, but could still improve their team with a trade.

New York is one of three teams in the mix — along with Boston and Chicago — to land Portland Trail Blazers small forward Rudy Fernandez, according to The Oregonian.

Fernandez is reportedly unhappy with his role behind All-Star Brandon Roy and with coach Nate McMillan’s penchant to use him as a shooter instead of a playmaker.

Fernandez, 25, set an NBA record two years ago by draining 159 3-pointers. He has two year remaining on his contract and will reportedly earn $1.25 million next season.

The Knicks dealt their 2011 and 2012 first-round draft picks to Houston in the Tracy McGrady deal, meaning they would likely have to package another player or players to get Fernandez.

“I’m confident that Portland is cooperating and finding a solution for everyone involved,” agent Andy Miller told The Oregonian.
