St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn said he doesn’t think 6-foot-11, 265-pound rising junior Andre Drummond will graduate in 2011.
“I think he’s leaving St. Thomas More in 2012,” Quinn said Thursday. “I believe he’s gonna be here two more years. That’s what the mom wants.”
Quinn plans to speak with Drummond’s mother, Christine Cameron, on Saturday to discuss her son’s options. Leaving the school in 2011 would be one option, but Quinn doubts it will happen.
“This is the mom’s decision,” he said. Nothing has changed in our mindset.”
Drummond is the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2012 and a potential future NBA lottery pick. UConn fans are hoping he stays in state and plays for the Huskies.
HARRIS VISITS ST. JOHN’S
Tyler Harris, a 6-8 senior forward at Dix Hills (N.Y.) Half Hollow Hills West, visited St. John’s Wednesday and has several other unofficials planned.
Torrel Harris, Tyler’s father, says his son will take unofficials to UConn, Providence and Iowa the week of Aug. 21.
As for the St. John’s visit, Torrel said: “The visit was great. We met with all the coaches, including Coach [Steve] Lavin, who is a great guy. They followed Tyler the whole summer during the evaluation period so they know his strengths and weaknesses and they like the fact that he’s a very skilled player.
“I truly believe Coach Lavin is going to turn the basketball program into a major powerhouse. He has a great coaching staff.”
