As first reported on my Twitter, Rutgers junior guard Tyree Graham of Durham, N.C. will undergo surgery in two weeks on his left knee.
It remains unclear if the 6-2 Graham will miss the entire season, but that remains a distinct possibility, sources said.
The knee injury was discovered during Graham’s physical examination process upon his arrival at Rutgers this past week.
“The health of our players is always our primary concern,” said head coach Mike Rice. “Tyree will remain very much involved in team activities and we look forward to his complete recovery.”
Duke guard Nolan Smith recently said Rutgers would be getting a talented player in Graham, a JUCO guard who had two years of eligibility remaining.
“They’re going to get an explosive scorer and a competitor,” Smith said. “I worked out with him when he’s down in Durham (N.C.) and he stays with me. We’re waking up early in the morning, getting shots in the gym, going running. He’s a competitor and he wants to be good.
