Nurideen Lindsey won’t play a game for St. John’s until the fall of 2011.
But it already appears Johnnies fans have a lot to look forward to.
In his first regular season game in over two years, the 6-foot-2 Lindsey dropped 48 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds in Redlands (Okla.) Community College’s 94-90 overtime win over Fort Scott (Kansas) on Tuesday night.
“It felt great,” Lindsey said by text. “That being my first school game in two years.”
Lindsey, a Philly native, said he scored in a variety of ways.
“Three, four jumpers,” he said. “14 of 16 from the line. But mostly penetrating to the basket and making things happen.”
At Overbrook High School in Philly, Lindsey challenged Wilt Chamberlain’s scoring record. Chamberlain finished with 2,206 points and Lindsey scored 1,315 through three seasons. He averaged 38 points as a junior, before taking two years off because of the death of his best friend from cancer and the murder of his younger brother, Halim, in 2009.
Lindsey is one of five 2011 commits pledged to Johnnies coach Steve Lavin. The others are Maurice Harkless, JaKarr Sampson, D’Angelo Harrison and Dominick Pointer.
