Lance Stephenson has expressed an interest in visiting several schools other than St. John’s, but no officials to Kansas or Memphis have yet been set up, according to sources close to the situation.
Kansas head coach Bill Self did speak recently with the 6-foot-5 Stephenson, who has repeatedly said he won’t pick a school until the spring.
A student-athlete has to have taken the PSAT, SAT or ACT to go on an official visit.
“Right now, I’m just worrying about basketball and at the end I’ll do all that college stuff,” Stephenson, ranked No. 4 among shooting guards in the Class of 2009, told me recently. “I’m going to do my high school season and after that I look forward to telling everybody what school I should go to.”
Stephenson has mentioned St. John’s, Kansas, Texas, Memphis, USC and UCLA as potential destinations.
He recently had an in-home visit with St. John’s head coach Norm Roberts and assistant Fred Quartlebaum, and then followed that up with an unofficial visit to St. John’s Midnight Madness event last week.
PITT VISITING CHEEKMeanwhile, Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon will have an in-home visit tonight St. Anthony standout Dominic Cheek.
Seton Hall, Kansas, Indiana, Rutgers, Villanova and Memphis have already visited Cheek. Wake Forest comes in Wednesday.
After that, the 6-5 Cheek will take officials to five schools, including Kansas, Villanova, Wake Forest and, potentially, Memphis.
WILLIAMS VISITING ST. JOHN’SJordan Williams, a 6-9 forward from Torrington (Conn.) High, will make an official visit this weekend to St. John’s. He recently visited Maryland and also holds offers from Villanova, Georgetown, UConn, Xavier, Providence and Notre Dame.
