Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano told reporters Tuesday that “there’s a chance” sophomore tailback Kordell Young could miss the remainder of the season with a left knee injury.
“He seems to be having setbacks here and there,” Schiano said, according to Keith Sargeant of the Home News Tribune.
Asked if there was a chance Young could sit out the rest of the season, the coach told reporters: “There’s a chance anything can happen, right?” Schiano said. Then he added, “”Yeah. Yeah, there’s a chance.”
Young hasn’t played since rushing 26 times for 94 yards in the season-opening loss to Fresno State. He sat out all of last season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
Young later said he injured his knee again during the “first quarter” of the Fresno State game.
He added during a recent practice: “I feel pretty good. A couple days after the (Fresno State) game, my leg started hurting a little bit. After going through a couple of practices, I started feeling a little bit of pain.”
Without Young, redshirt freshman Jourdan Brooks has emerged as the team’s top back over the last two weeks. He rushed for two TDs in the loss at Navy and three more in the 38-0 win over Morgan State.
