The awards keep piling up for St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley.
Hurley on Monday was given the Morgan Wootten Award for Lifetime Achievement in Coaching High School Basketball.
The accolade comes a week after Hurley, 63, notched his 1,000th career victory over Jersey City St. Mary’s.
Last August, Hurley became just the third high school coach ever inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame.
He has won 23 state titles, 10 Tournament of Champions crowns and three mythical national titles.
Gene Klinge of Iowa won the Wootten award for girls basketball.
“Bob Hurley and Gene Klinge represent the very finest in high school basketball,” said Wootten, the legendary former DeMatha Catholic coach. “As outstanding teachers, coaches and role models, they have touched the lives of thousands of young people. I am extremely pleased that I will able to present the Lifetime Achievement Awards to these fine coaches at this year’s McDonald’s All-American Games.”
The McDonald’s Game is slated for March 30 at the United Center in Chicago.
Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino will lead the East in the game.
Cimmino holds a record of 341-64 in his 17-year career and is a four-time New York State Coach of the Year. Cimmino won New York State Public High Schools Athletic titles in 2000, 2004, 2006 and 2007. He has won 11 sectional titles, including five in a row.
The McDonald’s team will be announced on Thursday.
