Jerami Grant, the son of former NBA standout Harvey Grant and the Rivals No. 17 power forward in the Class of 2012, is getting close to deciding.
“I cut my list down to six schools,” the 6-foot-8 Grant said by phone from the Nike Global Challenge in Hillsboro, Ore.
“N.C. State, Virginia Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, Rutgers and Syracuse.”
Grant tripped to Syracuse last week and said it went well.
“It was nice,” he said. “I definitely liked it. I got to see everything. I talked to all the coaches and [saw] how they felt about me. They said they were really looking at me.
“They was just telling me how they liked me, my game, telling me about the forwards that [have] been through their school. I could be one of those productive guys that have gone through.”
As for Rutgers, he has yet to visit but they are in the mix.
“[Associate head coach] David Cox and coach [Mike] Rice both contacted my dad and they contacted me,” he said. “They’re in the Big East along with Syracuse and the other schools. That’s a chance to play early.”
Grant says he plans to make some other visits in the coming weeks.
“I plan on visiting most of those schools in the upcoming couple weeks and probably make my decision the first of week of September or before that,” he said.
“I can’t really say anybody that’s going to be on my final list,” he added. “I might just break it down from the six, I’m not sure.”
As for what skill set he will bring, Grant is confident about his abilities to contribute.
“I think I can be versatile,” he said. “I can get my teammates involved and be a play-maker and just do what I have to do to win.”
