NEW YORK — Jevon Thomas may not know anything more than the rest of us.
But the onetime St. John’s commit sounds like he expects Kyle Anderson to land at St. John’s.
“Their main focus right now is Kyle,” Thomas said early Sunday morning after he and Anderson teamed up to lead Team New York over Team USA, 146-138, in the inaugural Franchise Classic at the South Bronx Jobs Corps.
“So maybe after they get Kyle, they’ll come hard at me and then maybe I’ll revisit it.”
The 6-foot-8 Anderson is due to announce Sept. 20, his 18th birthday, for St. John’s, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Florida or UCLA.
He told SNY.tv before the game he’s looking forward to getting the decision over with.
“Yeah, I am,” Anderson said. “I can’t wait for it to be finished with.”
As for Thomas, he recently decommitted from St. John’s and now sounds like he’s looking to leave New York for college in 2012.
“Yes,” said Thomas, who added that he holds offers from Penn State and Towson.
Thomas and Anderson coexisted well in the game and Thomas said he enjoys playing with the man nicknamed “SloMo.”
“It’s good because he makes the game more easy, and I’m able to play off the ball when I play with him,’ Thomas said. “We can switch it up at times, make it easy for each other. When one is tired, we just go off the ball.”
Asked if they could coexist together in college, Thomas thought they could.
“We both can play off the ball,” he said. “At the college level, he can do anything he wants to do. He can play one through five, and that just makes the game easier for me, and it takes all the attention off me.”
Still, at this point it appears unlikely the duo will team up together at the next level.
Thomas said he “rushed” into his commitment to St. John’s “too early.”
“I want to revisit things,” he said. “I don’t know if being home is the right thing.”
