Rodney Purvis, the No. 2 point guard in the Class of 2012, has issued a new list of schools.
The onetime Louisville commit out of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God guard said he’s no longer considering just N.C. State and Missouri, but has a new group of schools that includes UConn, Memphis, Missouri, N.C. Central, N.C. State, Ohio State, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia.
Purvis told ACC.now he plans to take five official visits and has no timetable set for a decision.
“Instead of rushing into another decision,” Purvis told the site. “I get to sit down and talk with the coaches more. Gain relationships with every coach on the staff. Just get a good feel for the campuses … and see what fits my style of play the best.”
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski called recently to say that the Blue Devils weren’t an option.
“Coach K called Rodney and said with the number of guards they had he didn’t think it would be fair to him to bring him in,” Purvis’s mother, Shanda McNair, told the site. “We respect it. We understand it. Our quest for the right fit continues.”
Purvis also remains close with Missouri assistant Tim Fuller, who recruited him to Louisville.
“I came to the decision that this is the single-most important decision that we’ll make for Rodney in his 17-year life span,” McNair said. “It may be a little hectic, it may be a little overwhelming at times, but this is a process we really need to go through. This is [Rodney’s] future that we’re making a decision about.”
As far as visits, Purvis has an in-home visit with N.C. State on Sept. 10 and will visit UConn Sept. 17. He will take an unofficial visit to N.C. Central next month. His godfather is head coach LeVelle Moton.
