Jeremy Hazell, one of the most prolific scorers in Seton Hall history, is headed to Spain and will play alongside former Duke standout and Detroit Pistons draft pick Kyle Singler.
The 6-foot-5 Hazell signed a two-year deal with Lucentum Alicante that has an NBA out after one season. He also considered offers in Italy and Israel.
“I am very excited and couldn’t be happier with the amazing deal we just closed on,” Hazell told SNY.tv. “I will be playing this coming season with Alicante of the ACB League in Spain. I love my agent Seth Cohen from OCR, and I cannot thank him enough. OCR is my family and always will be.
“Heading out overseas on Friday!”
Hazell averaged 20.4 points last season at Seton Hall, but missed 13 games with a broken wrist and was also the victim of a shooting during a botched robbery attempt on Christmas Day.
After becoming fully recovered, he played in the Nike league at Baruch College. He still hopes to return and potentially play in the NBA for the 2012-13 season.
“Jeremy’s going to play in the league,” Cohen said last month. “Now, because of the lockout he’s going to go overseas.”
Hazell joins several former Big East stars headed to Europe, including Rick Jackson of Syracuse (France), Ben Hansbrough and Tyrone Nash of Notre Dame (Germany), Jonathan Mitchell of Rutgers (Spain), St. John’s Dwight Hardy (Italy) and Paris Horne (Germany) and Gilbert Brown of Pittsburgh (Germany). Former Seton Hall star Andre Barrett will also play in France.
“I’m going to try to spend a year overseas,” Hazell told SNY.tv earlier this summer, “do what I’ve got to do and get my stats up and then come back next year and try to find a team.”
