Jerami Grant, a 6-foot-7 forward from DeMatha Catholic, has pledged to Syracuse over Rutgers and Notre Dame.
“It’s a great school, and even more importantly it’s a great fit,” Grant told SNY.tv by text. “Just feels right and it felt like a great opportunity to play with great players and play against the best in the Big East.”
“He fits what they do,” Team Takeover coach Keith Stevens added to SNY.tv by phone. “I think his style of play fits the way they play. There are a lot of similarities in how he played this summer with us and what Coach [Jim] Boeheim likes to do with his three-man, being able to get the ball off the backboard and being able to start the fastbreak.
“Coach Boeheim and Coach [Adrian] Autry really took time and built a relationship and made him feel comfortable.”
Grant is ranked the No. 19 power forward in the Class of 2012 by Rivals, but projects as a three.
Asked when Grant committed, Stevens said, “About five minutes ago, out of nowhere.”
Grant is the son of former NBA forward Harvey Grant, and the nephew of former Chicago Bulls standout Horace Grant.
“He’s got a chance to play at the highest level,” Stevens said.
At Syracuse, Grant will get a chance to play in the Big East against older brother Jerian, a freshman at Notre Dame.
