There is a new player in the John Wall Sweepstakes.
The Duke staff has reached out to those close to Wall about making a commitment in the spring.
“Yeah,” Wall said by text message when asked if this was the case.
The 6-foot-4 Wall out of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God is due to the take the SAT on Nov. 1. He has been recruited by Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Miami, Memphis, Oregon and N.C. State.
At this point, all signs point to a spring commitment.
Coaches from Baylor and Miami watched Wall work out on Wednesday in Raleigh, according to Jerry Meyer of Rivals.
“[Miami] got into the mix a week or two ago,” Wall said recently. “They called a week or two ago. They called and said they wanted to recruit me and so I put them back in the box.”
Wall has taken only one official visit so far, to Kansas. He will take another official to Memphis either the weekend of Nov. 8 or Nov. 15, according to a Memphis source.
He also recently took an unofficial to N.C. State, which is five minutes from his home. Derrick Favors, the 6-9 forward from South Atlanta High, was also there that weekend.
“It was a good visit,” Wall said. “I can go there just about any time because it’s only five minutes from my house. It was good to hear the fans chanting my name. I had a chance to talk to Derrick. We talked about the season coming up. We talked about what schools he’s considering.”
