In this edition of ‘The Big East Report,’ Aquille Carr, known as “The Crime-Stopper” talks about his decision to commit to Seton Hall and what his future goals are.
“I always liked Seton Hall, I always liked how they ran their offense, I always liked how Coach [Kevin] Willard coached,” Carr, a 2013 point guard from Baltimore (Md.) Patterson, told SNY.tv. “Me and Coach Willard got a really good relationship, so that’s why I picked Seton Hall.”
The 5-foot-7, 150-pound Carr also held offers from Baylor, Memphis, Maryland, Texas and Louisville.
Growing up, Carr said fellow diminutive guardsĀ Muggsy Bogues and Shawnta Rogers were role models.
“How did they get to the next level, working hard on drills,” he said. “It’s all going to come down to defense because you’re so small and they got other big guards, so you gotta work 10 times harder than they will.”
Carr’s work has paid off. He’s currently averaging 22 points for a 7-2 Patterson team.
The Pirates, meanwhile, are currently No. 24 and are 15-2 after a 94-73 victory over DePaul.
“I’ve been watching them, and they’ve been winning games,” Carr said. “They’ve been playing team ball and coach Willard is giving everybody a chance to play so they’ve been stepping up to the hype that they got.”
Carr said he’s also trying to get “other top players” from the Class of 2013 “to come in with me,” including 2013 South Kent shooting guard Chris Thomas, the top two guard in that class.
Carr and Patterson will be on display in Jersey City Saturday when they face Tyler Ennis and St. Benedict’s Prep in the Dan Finn Classic at 4 p.m.
“I would like for all Seton Hall fans to come out,” Carr said.
