  • Syracuse’s Melo Will Be Out ‘A While’

Syracuse sophomore center Fab Melo could be out  “a while” with academic issues, sources told the Syracuse Post-Standard.

The 7-foot sophomore missed the team’s last two games, at Notre Dame and at Cincinnati, because of academic concerns.

Prior to that, he had started every game for the Orange, 21-1 overall and 8-1 in the Big East. Melo is averaging 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds along with a team-leading 60 blocked shots.

He is still able to practice with the team and did so Wednesday, the Post-Standard reported.

It goes without saying that if Melo were to be lost for the postseason, it could hamper the Orange’s chances of contending for Big East and national championships.
